Comprehensive autism diagnostic assessment for adults, using gold-standard, NICE-endorsed measures.
Our Adult Autism Assessment Service is commissioned by the NHS to assess adults presenting with co-occurring conditions — such as severe and enduring mental-health difficulties, intellectual disability or ADHD.
We use gold-standard measures endorsed by NICE guidelines, including the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2) and the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R), supplemented by informant and clinical interviews. We work alongside Psicon as part of the Neurodevelopmental pathway provided by Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust.
Referrals are made by GPs to the Neurodevelopmental pathway in the first instance. Following triage, complex adult autism assessments are undertaken by our team. We contact each referred individual and may request further information before arranging a first appointment — either virtual or in person, depending on what suits the assessment and the person best.
On occasion a file review makes it clear that an autism diagnosis is highly unlikely; in those cases an in-person assessment may not be needed. This is always discussed openly with the individual and their family.
We are a small, psychology-led team with extensive experience in the assessment and diagnosis of autism and related neurodevelopmental conditions. Every team member has completed validated external ADOS-2 and ADI-R training and receives specialist external supervision.
